With wide sandy beaches, a quaint harbour, historic wooden pier and charming bungalow neighborhoods, Oceanside is located halfway between LA and San Diego.

Locals affectionately call their home O’side, and with a booming surf culture and stunning seaside life, it's the perfect place to start the mammoth RAAM crusade.

With a year-round sunny climate, and average temperature of 70 deg F (21 deg C), Oceanside’s weather has been rated by USA Today as the second most ideal climate in the United States and the fifth most ideal weather in the world.

Day 1 soon provides a taste of the route’s dramatic views as riders climb to over 4,200 feet, catch a brief view of the desert floor below, then lose more than 3,000 feet of elevation in a fast nine-mile descent dubbed The Glass Elevator.
